How it all Began…
It all started from the idea of just being a Maldivian, surrounded by beautiful crystal-clear waters, plenty of fish, and untouched bottoms. My interest began when I was nine years old, after I first saw a Japanese commercial for a digital game by Victor Entertainment and A Wave Inc. featuring Daiwa, which has tons of Daiwa products. Back then, there were just a handful of people who used rods and reels the way we see the fishing industry today.
As I grew up, I noticed that as Maldivians, we export only a few things, like canned tuna and sea cucumbers. This inspired me to design our own fishing rods that are exceptional and can withstand extreme conditions in saltwater fishing. Slowly, as time went by, I began studying rod manufacturing techniques and companies that produce such rods.
Eventually, we partnered and worked with well-known, strong manufacturers and brands who make world-class rods with supreme balance and versatility. Combining my ideas and experience, we started designing our own rods and lines that are well-matched and competitive with leading brands worldwide. Thus, we formed Serious Anglers.
Serious Anglers was the first company in the Maldives to introduce extreme slow jigging with “Hearty Rise” from Taiwan in deep waters. This technique is also our main focus, as it is something we always love—a Japanese art that fits perfectly for the Maldives and many parts of the world. Furthermore, it is a highly successful technique that can target almost every species in the ocean.
In the initial stages, the company faced bankruptcy several times due to high R&D development costs and time consumption, but few friends helped the company to stay on track and made this a reality, as being a one-man army in the Maldives was challenging. However, eventually, things got on track, and we are now a proud team of Maldivians with our own Brand trusted by thousands of Anglers around the world. and from a tiny nation surrounded by the sea.
Every product we make is designed to meet the standards of hardcore fishing, and slowly but steadily, we aim to create something different and original. We have also started exporting our products to countries in the Middle East and Indonesia. Our testers are from the Maldives, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Indonesia, covering major hotspots for extreme fishing, from pelagics to benthic monsters.
